A Bristol-based folk and Americana trio formed in 2022, Play Misty has unveiled their touching new single 'It's Too Late Now', released earlier today. A bittersweet tale of lost love featuring captivating three-part harmonies, delicate mandolin, warm guitars, and a grounding double bass, the new single is a gorgeous introduction to a trio on the rise.
Having already garnered attention from the likes of BBC Introducing and BBC Radio Bristol, the three-piece of Ryan McMurtry, Sophie Jones, and I-Sha-Vii continue to expand their acoustic sound on the new single, collaborating with top Bristol folk musicians Dan Welman (mandolin), Joe Trudgeon (double bass), and Max Harrison (drums). The result is a richer soundscape that amplifies the track's wistful beauty and is beautifully supported by melancholy tones.
'It's Too Late Now' is part of an EP titled 'At the Cube’, which was recorded at Bristol’s The Cube Microplex, a small venue in the city. The band were awarded funding from Arts Council England to complete the project which supports Bristol’s local venues and local folk music scene.
Speaking about the upcoming EP, Ryan shared, “We decided to support Bristol’s local venues by making The Cube the focal point of our release. Instead of recording in the studio or at home, we hired The Cube and set up on stage like a gig, and recorded the EP there. It’s such a beautiful venue and we hope getting this EP out there helps to highlight the importance of small grassroots venues to local music scenes across the country.”
You can see the band on tour in summer 2024 promoting their new EP at venues and festivals across the UK, with stops in Bristol, Devon, Dorset, Surrey and London. For more information on tour dates and tickets, visit here.
