South Summit release 'Sidelines', an anthemic indie-rock song with a soaring chorus, showcasing the band's impressive songwriting chops.
Now with an extensive twelve months of touring in the back pocket, South Summit have certified themselves as well-versed traveling artists, since their 2022 break out. Their latest single ‘Sidelines’ pulls inspiration from weeks spent on the road, progressing across the country, further and further away from home as their audience grows. However, home is never far from their thoughts, with ‘Sidelines’ a testament to the pull the band have back to their roots, keeping their feet on the ground and allowing themselves to reconnect with the land when back home in Western Australia.
Working out of Blackbird Sound Studio with acclaimed producer and now frequent collaborator Dave Parkin (Spacey Jane, Tired Lion, Bob Evans), the band were right at home throughout the process of recording ‘Sidelines’, as well as the forthcoming ‘Tales of The Yeti’ EP. Parkin played an instrumental role in the emerging South Summit sound, with the band more assured and defined than ever on this EP release. Once completed, the release was mastered by Grammy-award nominated producer Brian Lucey (Liam Gallagher, The Black Keys, Lime Cordiale). ‘Tales of The Yeti’ also marks South Summit’s first EP release with new distribution partners Virgin Music Australia (King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, George Alice, Amyl & The Sniffers).
Speaking about the new single, Isaiah Reuben of the band added, “Sidelines tells a story about finding your way back home. You can always be on the road, doing your thing, but always know where your home is, where you're from. Reconnecting with the land, sharing stories, it’s all part of that.”
Josh Trindall continued, “The way we write and make our music always happens naturally, our latest EP 'Tales of the Yeti' in particular was a special one. Every song has its own journey and process, whether it starts from a demo or a jam. Once we get the foundations of each song, we just jam our parts for a while until the song feels right and ready to take into the studio.”
With South Summit familiar now with the airports and highways connecting every city in Australia, from a year of extensive touring, they are looking to see out the year in celebratory style, announcing headline dates of their own - including their debut international shows in New Zealand. Supported by triple j, these dates mark a pivotal moment for South Summit; moving from indie-upstarts, to a headlining name within their own right. With tracks from ‘Tales of The Yeti’ having been sprinkled throughout their set this year, these shows will also be the first time fans will be able to sing along with all of their released songs.
