Western Sydney 4-piece The Sooks have crafted a simple-yet-effective, hook-driven bop on their new single ‘Never Gonna Go’; delivered today just in time for the summer.
Fuzzy, surf rock guitars colour this indie-rock track from the beginning, injecting a hook that will almost certainly sit with you for days. The track may be thematically simple, but this instant-hit of serotonin doesn’t need to be complicated - with huge singalong melodies and super bright production that hits the spot on every listen. Written following a lazy day at the beach, the band set out to write an ear-worm chorus that would resonate with their ever-growing fanbase, and following its first live performance it was clear the track was a success.
The band worked with acclaimed producer Jack Nigro on the track, who has worked with some of the country's biggest names including Rum Jungle, DMAs and Pacific Avenue. The huge, surf-rock sound that Jack has become known for is clearly present on the track - perfectly extenuating the infectious songwriting from the up-and-coming Sydney band.
Keenan Fitzsimons of the band shared, “‘Never Gonna Go’ was written while chilling at the beach. We were recording the next week so we quickly jammed it out. We recorded with the legend himself Jack Nigro at Sonora Studios which we enjoyed every minute of. Jack brought some mad ideas to the songs that really helped polish it off so we are really excited to be releasing this tune. We were originally going for a more punky-surf kinda sound but in the studio we decided to go for a more anthemic surf-rock vibe that we are really happy with.”
The track comes off the back of a big year for The Sooks, following two previously released singles; ‘Burn Me Out’ and ‘Young and Alive’. Both singles received significant radio support, including spins on triple j’s 2023 program with Richard Kingsmill. ‘Young and Alive’ received a first play on triple j Unearthed, as well as consistent radio support from Southern FM, SYN, 4ZZZ and 2SER. The team at Spotify backed Young and Alive as well, gifting the track a spot in Rock Out, Local Noise, Fresh Finds AU and NZ and Fresh Finds Rock.
