Hugo Basclain's 'echoes' Is A Serendipitous Serenade to Lost Love

Hugo Basclain has always had a knack for capturing the emotional turbulence of young love, a skill honed from his teenage years on the Central Coast to his present life in LA. His music, influenced by artists like Frank Ocean and The 1975, resonates with a raw vulnerability that sets him apart.

With his new single 'echoes,' taken from the forthcoming EP 'freeway flowers', Basclain once again delivers a tender, reflective sonic journey, this time coloured by a unique twist of fate.

The new track is a bittersweet ode to the end of a long-distance relationship, blends nostalgic lyricism with a deceptively lighthearted melody, softening the blow of heartache. Yet, it's the story behind 'echoes' that adds an extra layer of depth. During a creative block, Basclain and collaborator Lukas had a chance encounter in North Hollywood with a trombonist. The spontaneous collaboration that ensued, resulting in a captivating horn arrangement, not only broke their creative stalemate but also serves as a beautiful metaphor for the unexpected twists and turns of life and love.

'echoes' stands as a testament to Basclain's ability to turn personal heartache into a resonant piece of music. His distinct style, blending R&B and soulful pop, shines through, further solidified by Devin Kennedy's lead guitar contributions. Basclain's willingness to be open and vulnerable in his music creates a true connection with his listeners, inviting them to reflect on their own experiences alongside him.

In 'freeway flowers', Basclain explores the complexities of relationships and the transformative power of resilience, drawing inspiration from his mother's strength. The EP's title echoes this sentiment, symbolising beauty blooming amidst adversity. With 'echoes' as a powerful precursor, it's clear that 'freeway flowers' is set to be another emotionally charged and beautifully crafted addition to Hugo Basclain's discography.
