Kook Joey's debut EP, 'Losing Limits', has arrived today, offering a warm and inviting journey through the highs and lows of life. This six-track collection chronicles her experiences over the past three years, inviting listeners to connect with her authentic storytelling and heartfelt melodies.
The EP kicks off with her debut single, 'Everything is Good', a vibrant track that embraces the beauty of the present moment and the simple joys in life. Written three years ago, this song not only marks the beginning of Kook Joey's musical path but also serves as a reminder of the transformative power of mindfulness and human connection.
The EP's journey took Kook Joey to Sydney, where she collaborated with Luke Carruana and Chris Smithson of Caravana Sun. Together, they created the sun-drenched tracks 'Lying in the Sun' and 'Constant Gratification'. Their creative process involved a deep connection with nature, frequently stepping outside to find inspiration. 'Lying in the Sun' captures the essence of a transformative summer, reflecting Kook Joey's desire for peace amidst life's constant changes. 'Constant Gratification' explores the beauty of patience and trusting in life's natural flow.
Kook Joey then teamed up with Tobias Priddle, who brought seamless energy to the recording process. Mixing both 'Lying in the Sun' and 'Constant Gratification', Tobias and Kook Joey quickly bonded over their shared love of 60s folk music. This sparked the creation of two more tracks: 'I'll Wake Up Early Next Time' and the EP's title track, 'Losing Limits'. Produced by Tobias, these songs delve into Kook Joey's love for folk music infused with 60s influences.
A delightful late addition to the EP is 'The Spillage', a collaboration with her friend and producer AKA Lui. Inspired by 60s and 70s folk, this track captures Kook Joey's adventurous spirit and the vibrant energy of friendship. Although it joined the project later, Kook Joey felt it was essential to include it, as it perfectly encapsulates the essence of her journey in creating this EP.
To celebrate the release of 'Losing Limits', Kook Joey held her first full band show at The Punters Club on 23rd January 2025, promising a heartfelt celebration of music, connection, and community.
