Rising Star Ben Swissa Unveils Debut Single ‘Angel’ with Captivating Video

Emerging artist Ben Swissa, fresh from his recent performances in Los Angeles, Nashville, and New York, has unveiled the official video for his debut single ‘Angel’. This marks his first release under Island Records Australia. The teenage prodigy, known for his multi-instrumental talents, is currently touring with SIX60 on their sold-out Regional Australia tour.

Swissa’s music is a vibrant and eclectic blend of contemporary, groove-heavy pop. His sound, which integrates traditional pop elements like guitar, bass, drums, keys, and vocals, is infused with a deep appreciation for classic soul, funk, R&B, and pop. This, combined with a modern, post-modern sensibility, creates a unique musical experience.

‘Angel’, produced by M-Phazes (known for working with Remi Wolf, Ruel, and Amy Shark) alongside Swissa himself, showcases Swissa's versatility. He handles almost all the instruments and vocals, bringing a personal touch to every note. The track features a gentle beat and twinkling harp, blending classic and contemporary styles while exploring the emotional turmoil of a toxic relationship. Swissa’s honeyed falsetto soars over the muted guitars and roving bassline, creating an evocative soundscape.

Reflecting on ‘Angel’, the 18-year-old artist shared, "Creating 'Angel' was about diving into the complex feelings of loving someone toxic, someone you can't live without. The video captures the loneliness and desperation, using symbolic visuals to represent the ups and downs. It’s a raw look at the bittersweet mix of love and toxicity, and I hope it connects with people on a personal level."

The video, directed by Oliver Kirby and Joshua Moll, complements the song’s emotional depth. The directors aimed to elevate Swissa’s performance without overshadowing his songwriting. Kirby noted, “A simple one-shot video, with only two double-speed takes available was a risk, but Ben did so well to hold our attention for the full runtime.”

‘Angel’ has already garnered significant attention, with its first play on triple j’s Home n Hosed and features on several notable playlists, including Apple Music’s Best New Songs and VEVO’s global New Music Friday. Swissa’s live performances have also been highly praised, with triple j Unearthed describing him as a “young 5-piece-one-man-band of grooving soulful Rythm'n'Pop.”

Beyond the studio, Swissa has performed at prestigious events like SXSW, Bluesfest, and Music Matters in Singapore. His growing influence is evident, with endorsements from industry legends like Tash Sultana, GFlip, and The Roots. As he continues to collaborate with artists and record in major music cities worldwide, Ben Swissa is undoubtedly a rising star to watch.
