Byron Bay's The Colliflowers have launched into the new year with a burst of raw energy, delivering their latest single, 'Streets'. The indie-rock quartet, known for their vibrant live performances and sun-drenched guitar riffs, are solidifying their reputation as a force to be reckoned with in the Australian music scene. Comprising Gary Collocott on vocals and rhythm guitar, Rachael Goddard on drums, Nelson Ludeke on lead guitar, and Alex Pereira on bass, the band blends indie rock with hints of reggae and pop, creating a sound that's both familiar and uniquely their own.
Their recent touring exploits have seen them electrify audiences across the nation, with sold-out headline shows and appearances at festivals like Spaced Out and Byron Music Festival. Now, they're embarking on an East Coast headline tour, promising to bring their high-octane live show to fans up and down the coastline.
'Streets', their first release of 2025, captures the essence of their live dynamism, channeling the energy of bands like Catfish and the Bottlemen and The Rions, while maintaining their distinct identity. Written during their extensive 2024 tour, the song explores the band's complex relationship with urban life. It’s a track that acknowledges the allure of city lights, yet ultimately reaffirms their deep connection to their rural roots.
As the band explain, "Touring Australia with DICE and The VANNS took us to so many cities and towns that completely blew us away. Coming from a small rural town, we were amazed by how easily accessible everything was and how great the suburban vibes felt. We would always comment on how sick it would be to live in these areas but then questioned it as soon as we returned back to the Northern Rivers - there’s just no place like home.”
In keeping with the song's theme, the recording process was kept close to home at SCU Studios in Lismore, NSW. The band opted for a stripped-back approach, focusing on capturing the raw energy of their live sound. The track showcases Goddard's signature roomy drum sound, Pereira's punchy bass lines, Collocott's sing-along vocals, and Ludeke's wall of guitars. Engineered by Steve Law and mixed by Central Coast producer Jack Nigro, known for his work on previous Colliflowers releases, 'Streets' is a testament to the band's commitment to authentic, high-energy music.
Beyond their live shows, The Colliflowers have cultivated a strong online presence, garnering significant attention on platforms like TikTok and Spotify. Their previous releases have enjoyed airplay on national radio, and with 'Streets' poised to be another hit, it's clear that The Colliflowers are a band on the rise. Their ability to fuse catchy melodies with genuine storytelling is resonating with audiences, and they are quickly becoming a staple of the Australian indie music scene.
