The Morning Herald, a Brooklyn-based indie rock outfit, have just dropped their latest music video for the track 'Twenty Somethings', and it's a love letter to youth, friendship, and the thrill of a good night out.
The band, who have been making waves in the New York City indie scene, have a sound that draws inspiration from the early 2000s indie rock scene with a modern synth-pop twist. Think The Strokes meets The Killers, with a dash of Arcade Fire's anthemic energy thrown in for good measure. They've already sold out iconic venues like the Mercury Lounge, a proving ground for indie legends, and are fresh off their first headlining tour.
'Twenty Somethings' is an ode to those carefree nights out with your best mates, where the destination is less important than the journey, and the memories made are priceless. Lead singer and songwriter Zach Leone explains the inspiration behind the track: “'Twenty Somethings' was written when I first moved to the city. I wanted to write a love song to my friends. I was listening to a lot of Sam Fender and Springsteen and was impressed by how they write about going out and having fun, but it still feels cinematic and poetic."
The music video perfectly captures the essence of the song. Directed by Thomas Ford Flynn, it's a montage of youthful exuberance, featuring the band and their friends hitting the streets of New York City's Lower East Side. Leone describes it as "a celebration of cheap beer, nights out on the town, New York's lower east side, and telling your friends you love them."
The Morning Herald have been on quite a journey since their formation in Philadelphia back in 2016. Starting out in the college scene, they honed their craft in the bars and basements of Villanova University before relocating to Boston and eventually landing in Brooklyn. Their debut album, 'Rounder', was a concept album inspired by nights out while the world was in lockdown. Now, they've followed it up with 'Goldstar', a breakup album exploring the complexities of heartbreak with their signature blend of indie rock and synth-pop.
