A brilliant artist who has been consistently drawn to innovation and deviation from the conventional, Danielle Bloom has shared her new single ‘Start a Revolution’. Delivering a standout anthem that captures the essence of empowerment and change, the new single inspires listeners to stand up for what they believe in and embrace their individuality.
To help champion the release and further spread the love, we sat down with Danielle to speak with her about the new single, what inspired her to write it, and how her journey in music began.
It's so lovely to speak with you today, thank you for taking the time. When did you first start making music?
“Thank you so much for having me! Ever since I can remember, my mother would often joke that I started singing in the womb! While that might be a playful exaggeration, my love for music indeed began at a very early age. At the tender age of 12, I embarked on my first adventure as a traveling singer. It was an incredible experience that allowed me to explore new places and connect with diverse audiences.”
“As time went on, my passion for music continued to grow. By the time I reached 15 years old, I found myself delving into the art of songwriting. It became an outlet for me to express my emotions and tell stories that resonated with others.”
What influences have inspired your sound the most?
“When it comes to finding inspiration, I find myself drawn to all genres of music. However, it was the raw energy and soulful spirit of rock and roll that truly touched my heart and saved my soul. Artists like Janis Joplin, Joan Jett, Heart, Alanis Morissette, Madonna, and Tina Turner have been constant sources of empowerment for me. These powerful women paved their own way in the industry and continue to inspire me.”
“Additionally, bands like the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin, just to name a few, have left an indelible mark on me with their timeless music and groundbreaking contributions to rock history. I believe that embracing a wide range of influences fuels creativity and helps explore new musical avenues.”
Is there a constant meaning or message behind your music?
“Deep within me, there is an innate desire to inspire and encourage others to have confidence in themselves and go after what they truly desire. Why? Because I understand firsthand how challenging it can be to maintain self-belief when faced with doubts from others and yourself. It's often during those moments of uncertainty that we need someone in our corner, to remind us of our potential. So consider me that person cheering you on from the sidelines!”
“Your dreams are valid, and no one knows your capabilities better than you do. Regardless of any obstacles or naysayers along the way, have faith in yourself, because belief can move mountains.”
We've been enjoying your new single so much lately, how would you describe the sound behind it?
“This new track ‘Start A Revolution’ showcases a fusion of two incredible genres, creating a sound that I like to call "Retro Modern Rock and Roll." It combines the nostalgic elements of classic rock with a fresh, modern twist, resulting in a unique and captivating musical experience.”
Let's focus on 'Start A Revolution’ for the moment, can you tell us more about the track?
During a time of personal discouragement, I felt like I was constantly banging my head against a wall in an attempt to make things happen. It seemed like every effort I made was met with resistance and little progress. However, instead of letting these challenges define me, they inspired me to create something meaningful.”
"’Start a Revolution’ is a product of that trying period in my life. It is an anthem born out of frustration, reminding us all that change often begins with the smallest actions. It serves as a reminder that even during our moments of self-doubt, there is always potential for growth and transformation.”
What is your songwriting process, and what is the most important thing when bringing a song to life?
“Whenever I start working on a new song, I begin by meditating on the message that I want to convey. Understanding the core emotions and ideas that I want to express is essential for creating a meaningful song.”
“Drawing inspiration from personal experiences is another crucial aspect of my creative process. By tapping into my own journey and emotions, I find that authenticity resonates with others. Once I have a clear concept in mind, I often begin by coming up with a catchy or thought-provoking title. This acts as an anchor point for me as I develop the rest of the song.”
What’s next for you as an artist?
“I am excited to share some exciting updates on my artistic journey with you! Mark your calendars for June 1st, 2024, because that's when my new book, ‘Mirror, Mirror’ will be hitting the shelves. It's a captivating exploration of self-worth beyond mere appearances. While I've been keeping the momentum going with my single releases, I'm also busy working on something bigger. By September, I'll be releasing an entire record packed with fresh and inspiring tracks that will take your senses on an extraordinary musical voyage.”
A few final questions before you go, What advice would you give to new artists?
“First and foremost, I cannot stress enough the importance of character. How you interact within the artistic community and beyond is crucial. Building strong relationships, maintaining integrity, and being true to yourself will not only enhance your art but also open doors for opportunities. In addition to developing your character, it is crucial to understand the business side of the industry. Take time to read, study, and familiarize yourself with the ins and outs of how the art world operates. This knowledge will empower you when making decisions about your career and help you navigate through any challenges that may arise.”
“Of course, honing your craft is essential. Dedicate time to practice regularly and strive for continuous improvement in your skills. Embrace a growth mindset, always seeking new techniques or approaches that can elevate your artistry.”
“Furthermore, consider expanding your knowledge beyond just art itself. Studying economics can provide valuable insights into managing finances as an artist or understanding market dynamics within the industry. Additionally, learning a trade or acquiring practical skills can serve as a safety net while pursuing your artistic dreams.”
“Remember that success in any field takes time and perseverance. Stay focused on becoming the best version of yourself and remain dedicated to both personal growth and artistic excellence.”
What has been your best moment as a musician/band so far?
“Choosing just one memorable moment from my journey so far is a tough task, as I've been blessed with numerous incredible experiences. From the inspiring feedback I receive to witnessing people leaving my shows in a better mood, each encounter has left a lasting impact on me. Another highlight that stands out is the privilege of opening for renowned artists like the Backstreet Boys, NSYNC, and MC Hammer. Sharing the stage with these music legends was an incredible experience.”
What do you like most about playing music?
“I have a genuine admiration for the incredible journey and experiences that come with playing music. The sheer beauty of music lies in its ability to touch our hearts, awaken emotions, and create connections that transcend language barriers. It is truly a gift that brings people together from all walks of life. One of the many reasons I am so passionate about music is its power to uplift spirits and ignite creativity.”
“Singing offers an escape from the daily hustle and bustle, allowing me to immerse myself in a world where my thoughts are free and my soul can soar. It provides solace during challenging times and celebrates my triumphs with a badass groove.”
