Continuing his trend of supporting rising and undiscovered artists, the acclaimed multi-Grammy nominated, Brit winning producer, songwriter and artist Bryan Wilson aka Boom Dice announces the release of his latest single ‘Extroverts’ with Florida Born, Serbian based actress and singer-songwriter MadLeo, out now on all streaming platforms.
A heavenly slice of electric dark-pop, ‘Extroverts’ features Boom Dice’s trademark slick production and infectious melodies, complemented by MadLeo’s sultry vocals, layering the two artists talents to create a perfect piece of indie-pop magic. With the track taking off and gaining acclaim from all across the globe, we decided it with the perfect time to sit down with talented feature artist MadLeo to talk about their inspirations, triumphs, and aspirations.
Wonderful to have this opportunity to meet you, the new track has been a breakaway success! Prior to your work with Boom Dice, how did it all come together?
Pop music actually first got me obsessed with songwriting. As a kid I would hear something on the radio and think, I can do that.
The new single has been described as ‘dark pop’, ‘alt-pop’, and more. How did the single come together?
Writing Extroverts was my first-time top lining a track, which means writing lyrics/melody to music, instead of the other way around. It’s also my first time collaborating with another artist… something my introverted self kept me from doing until now. The experience jolted me out of my comfort zone and inspired the subject of the song.
What is your songwriting process usually, is it more organic?
Usually, a song comes together after many, many hours sitting at the piano or with my ukulele. I almost always have a single lyric or thought that I want to build on before I get started. Then I spend a lot of time doing rewrites, while tweaking and expanding on the melody along the way.
How would you describe your sound in ‘Extroverts’, because everyone seems to have a unique take on the track?
I’d describe my sound as lyrical driven dark pop, something like Miley Cyrus or Lana Del Rey with a power twist.
Would you say they’re particular influences for you, or do you find inspiration elsewhere?
Art, history and philosophy all go hand in hand in inspiring me. I carve out time away from music to see films, people watch, analyse, go to museums, and educate myself about the world to get meaningful inspiration.
The big question now has to be, what’s next for you? What can we expect from MadLeo in the new year?
While I continue to release, I’m simultaneously making my first album, which is something I've dreamt of doing since I first started writing. It’ll be unlike anything I have out currently, in a good way, and it’ll have its roots in pop rock. I’m lucky to have found some great musicians to work and produce with, it’s all really exciting for me. In the meantime, though, I’ll be releasing a stripped-down version of Extroverts, several live covers, and a few more singles of my own before the album drops in 2022.
Finally, a question we always get asked; what advice would you give to bands who are looking to make it big?
I’d say, be a well-informed artist. Know the legends, know different genres, know how and where music came from, and know how it connects to history. After you understand and appreciate art from the past, you’ll have the knowledge and inspiration to make your own.
An immensely talented singer-songwriter and actress taking on the music scene with expressive lyrics and bold dark pop production, MadLeo is arguably one of the ambitious young artists on the scene today. Making her mark after growing up in Daytona Beach FL, she’s definitely one to watch.
Her latest offering with Boom Dice is set to pave the way for the release of her upcoming debut EP, set for release in early 2022.
