To help celebrate the release of the band’s debut single ‘The End’, we sat down with them to talk about the new cut, the bands that inspired them, and what we can expect in the future.
It’s fantastic to have the three of you here. The new single has absolutely taken over my streaming this last week. Let’s take it right back to the beginning, how did the band get together?
“Leigh and Mike met around fifteen years ago while in other bands. They reconnected towards the end of '22 and began writing together. Nat came shortly after, finding them through an online ad. We all started making music for the same reason, to make more of the music that had resonated so strongly with us in our formative years”
What influences have helped define your music?
“Pretty much anything emotional and melodic with a bit of an edge: Paramore, All Time Low, Fall Out Boy, Mayday Parade, New Found Glory, PVRIS, Yellowcard, Story Of The Year, Anberlin, Taylor Swift...”
“Oh, and Mike listens to a LOT of weird music. PLEASE don't get him started...”
The new single is a powerful first release for the band. Can you tell us about more about it?
“Our lead single, ‘The End’ is about finding yourself at a place in life where the people around you are following a path that you know isn't for you. It's about making the decision to be your own person, and follow your own vision, even if that means walking away.”
How would you describe your sound for those not yet acquainted with it?
“We make "driving pop-punk with a twist of melancholy". Damn, that was a good answer...”
What was your songwriting process for ‘The End’, how did it come about?
“We're entirely DIY. We'd meet up at Mike's place a few times a week to write and record. Sometimes Leigh would bring a riff, Nat would bring a melody or lyrics, or we'd just start from scratch. Mike pushes buttons and stuff. I don't really know what he does, but he says ‘do it again’ a lot...”
What’s the most important thing when you’re writing music?
“Having fun! You "play" music, you don't ‘work’ music. If the process is too serious, the end result is gonna suck. We do this because we love it because it's fun for us. Otherwise, what's the point?”
What’s next for the band?
“We just want to keep doing what we love and making music that we're proud of. If it sounds cool, that's good enough for us.”
