New Zealand-born, LA-based electronic artist BAYNK has announced his highly anticipated second album, 'SENESCENCE', set for an episodic release in two-song bundles throughout 2024. Following his GRAMMY-nominated debut, 'ADOLESCENCE', which explored youthful themes, 'SENESCENCE' delves into the realities of time's passage and the acceptance of life's impermanence.
The first two tracks, 'Inches (Prelude)' and focus track 'Fool For You', offer a glimpse into the album's sonic landscape. 'Inches (Prelude)' sets a moody, emotive tone with heavy, distorted production and anxiety-evoking double-time vocals. The lyrics, described by BAYNK as "a declaration of love and commitment, whilst also a warning for those who let love shape and mould them beyond what they might feel comfortable with," hint at the album's deeper exploration of relationships and self-discovery.
Co-written and produced with Joe Mason in London, 'Fool For You' reveals BAYNK's evolving sound. "I played the main chord line on a Prophet 6 and Joe resampled them to create the stuttered rhythmic effect," BAYNK explains. "'Fool For You' gives a slightly more live feel, which is a departure from my older, more clinical sound and gives a taste of what’s to come from the upcoming record."
Since his 2017 debut, BAYNK has amassed over half a billion streams independently, becoming one of New Zealand's biggest musical exports. His collaborations with artists like Tinashe and Cosmo's Midnight, along with the success of his 2019 single 'go with u', have solidified his position in the indie-dance scene.
Known for his full-circle creativity, BAYNK collaborates with Spencer Graves on his creative direction, encompassing everything from music videos to tour visuals. With sold-out shows across the globe and appearances at major festivals, BAYNK's energetic live performances have made him an artist to watch in the electronic music landscape.
