Hoodzy returns with her latest single ‘Evil’

Coming off the back of her support slots for Santigold, Hoodzy returns today with her latest single ‘Evil’. An effortless mixture of bars and vocals, ‘Evil’ sees Hoodzy reach new sonic heights with her distinct combination of hip hop, pop and dance influences. Exploring a complex web of emotions that toxic relationships bring, ‘Evil’ appears playful on the surface while delving into the pain lyrically. Accompanied by a brand-new music video from director Nick Rae in association with Finding Allegra, ‘Evil’ personifies this toxicity as Hoodzy’s leading lady, the mannequin. Alongside the mannequin, ‘Evil’ all sides of Hoodzy’s personality, from her fearless, youthful energy to her vulnerable, introspective musings.

Speaking of the track, Hoodzy explained, “This track portrays one of the many toxic relationships I’ve had with females in my time. It’s exhilarating & exhausting at the same time. This song holds a fun and poppy sound yet the lyrics are the exact opposite. I wanted to keep this one playful and light on the ears but still have a deeper meaning. Two conflicting emotions mashed up into one.”

Over the past two years, Hoodzy has spent most of her time growing as a person and growing as an artist. While the world experienced some of the strangest times, she chose to absorb that strangeness and channel it through words, melodies and rhythms, culminating in her recent singles, ‘Worth It’, ‘Mum Warned You’, ‘Alone’, ‘This Feeling’. An impactful introduction to Hoodzy’s new sound, these tracks were championed by the likes of triple j, Acclaim, Music Feeds, Complex and more.

With roots laying deep in New Zealand to reaching her birthplace of the west coast of Australia, Hoodzy flows through like the sea breeze between the two countries. At just 16, Hoodzy launched triple j’s new series, Bars of Steel – showcasing her charm and confidence despite her little experience in the booth. From there, she performed her first ever gigs to sold out shows opening for Triple One, played her first festival at Perth’s Listen Out 2019, warmed up the stages for Horrorshow, Jesswar and Genesis Owusu, and featured on songs by Miiesha and Kobie Dee. Most recently, Hoodzy supported Santigold on her Melbourne and Sydney headline shows.
