Hungary's Zságer Balázs dives into the depths with 'Aqua Obscura' explores the mystique of water

Budapest-based keyboardist and producer Zságer Balázs, best known for his groundbreaking work with the electronic band Žagar, is venturing into uncharted territory with his debut solo album, 'Aqua Obscura'. An immersive ambient record, it draws inspiration from the mystical depths of water, exploring its significance within ancient mythology and folklore.

Taking root from Hungarian lore, Nordic legends, and even Pagan beliefs, where water often holds symbolic power, each track on the album transports the listener across mythical seas and enchanted lakes, blurring the lines between the real and the imagined. Collaborating with Dorina Takács (Дeva) on one of the album's tracks, Balázs weaves a sonic tapestry that transcends time and space.

Released today, 'Aqua Obscura' stems a childhood dream, as Balázs shared, "After years of playing in the Žagar band, I've circled back to my childhood dream: creating music with synthesizers only. Over the recent years, I've delved into experimenting with various instruments and sounds, ranging from classic analogue like the Arp2600 to cutting-edge modular synthesizers built on groundbreaking algorithms. The 'Aqua Obscura' album is the imprint of several years of experimentation and sound discovery, serving as a testament to my journey."

Drawing inspiration from his deep and personal connection to water, Balázs offers an immersive experience that transcends traditional boundaries. Taking shape, 'Aqua Obscura' is not just an album; it's a journey into the unknown, where listeners are invited to explore the mysteries of the deep.

In addition to his musical endeavors, Zságer Balázs showcases his artistic vision through his directorial debut with the music video for the single 'Sötét Víz' (Black Water). Filmed at the black sand Seixal beach on Madeira, the video captures the mysterious allure of water and its profound connection to nature and art.

Zságer Balázs has been at the forefront of Hungary's electronic music scene for decades, bit his work on 'Aqua Obscura' is a step in a stunning new direction. While his work with Žagar, including four acclaimed albums and captivating soundtracks, has established him as a visionary composer, 'Aqua Obscura' sees him creating a captivating introspective journey, revealing new facets of his artistry and his profound connection with the world.
