Alt-Country firecracker Lisa De Angelis, the "cowboy for city slickers," has released her latest single, 'Wildwood (Time To Grow Up)'. A stellar blend of timeless Americana and stomping Bluegrass, the single is a refreshing take on the traditional break-up song, inviting listeners to dance away the heartache.
De Angelis, known for her signature blend of June Carter Cash and The Black Keys, delivers a nostalgic yet upbeat track that chronicles the four seasons of an unfulfilling relationship. "I wanted a break-up song that feels hopeful, exhilarating, and joyful," says De Angelis. "Something to dance to instead of cry to."
Co-produced by De Angelis and her partner, drummer Paul Bain, 'Wildwood' captures the essence of growth and moving on. "It's about realising someone isn't good enough for you, and that's okay," she explains.
The track features a stellar line-up of Australian country musicians, including Golden Guitar Award-winner Gabi Louise on fiddle, Michael Moko on various stringed instruments, Sonic Edwards on bass, and Paul Bain on drums and percussion. Melody Moko's honeyed vocals add another layer of warmth to the track.
2024 has been a whirlwind year for De Angelis, having played Nashville's CMA Fest, Tamworth Country Music Festival, and being named a semi-finalist in the International Songwriting Competition. She has also toured with Australian music icons like Steve Kilbey, Phil Jamieson, and Catherine Britt.
Fellow country artist Hayley Jensen praises De Angelis' unique blend of old and new sounds, saying, "Lisa is a total joy. [An] ultra-talented human who brings her own unique twist to the world of country music. I'm here for all of it!"
De Angelis, a mentee of ARIA Award winner Fanny Lumsden, is set to release her debut album in early 2025, co-produced with Bain. With her distinctive sound and captivating energy, Lisa De Angelis is undoubtedly one to watch in the Alt-Country scene.
