David Arn and Kerri Hardwick Share Heartfelt Ballad ‘What a Heart Must Do’

David Arn, the Maryland-based singer-songwriter known for his raw, authentic vocals and lyrically driven acoustic music, is back with a new project, ‘Ventriloquism’, and it's unlike anything he's done before. After partially losing his voice in 2024, Arn turned a setback into an opportunity, writing and producing songs for other artists to perform. The result is a collection of tracks showcasing "seasoned musicians and singers," some of whom have graced prestigious stages like the Grand Ole Opry.

Leading the charge is the first single, ‘What a Heart Must Do’, a heartfelt ballad featuring the gorgeous vocals of Kerri Hardwick. This song is a departure from Arn's previous work, but it’s certainly no less impressive. The track beautifully blends elements of traditional hymn tunes with hints of Holst's ‘The Planets’, creating a unique and captivating sound.

Built on a glistening piano melody, ‘What a Heart Must Do’ is instantly ensnaring. The lilting, charming sound, provided by the brilliant Arcangelo Trabucco, remains emotionally resonant and authentic. There's an elegance that shines through this minimalist approach; a stripped-back production, glistening piano, and Hardwick's gorgeous vocals.

Her voice, with its delicate sensitivity, perfectly captures the raw emotion of Arn's lyrics, which explore the profound bond between a mother and child. Lines like "May you outlast each heartache, keep indifference 'neath a rock" speak to the depth and tenderness of this connection.

The gentle accompaniment of strings, arranged and orchestrated by Maria Grig, adds weight to the song later in the track, offering a warm, heartfelt sound that lingers long after the final note fades. ‘What a Heart Must Do’ is a testament to Arn's songwriting prowess and his ability to craft music that resonates deeply with the listener.

With ‘Ventriloquism’ set for release later this year, David Arn has created something truly special, and this first single is a promising taste of what's to come. For more from David, be sure to connect via his website, or follow him on Facebook and YouTube.
