Mirko Pirozzi’s 'Glide' Is A Psychedelic Journey Through Sound

Mirko Pirozzi is back with 'Glide', a ten-track exploration of progressive rock and psychedelia that takes the listener on a captivating journey through aural landscapes. Unlike his previous, more orchestral works, 'Glide' sees Pirozzi lean into synthesisers and guitars, crafting a dreamlike atmosphere that envelops the listener from the first note to the last.

The album opens with ‘Barrel Or Bass Drum?’, a track that perfectly encapsulates the album's core sound. Steady percussion provides a grounding foundation for slow, melodic movements and shimmering synths. It feels like an awakening, stripping back the sometimes-dense layers of progressive rock to create something fresh and invigorating.

From there, Pirozzi takes us on a sonic adventure, each track offering a unique flavour and texture. ‘Locust Attack!’ shifts the tone with its lighter, almost joyous keyboard melodies and hints of brass energy. It has a celestial feel, with spacious movements blending seamlessly with dreamy synths.

One of the album's strengths lies in its unpredictability. Pirozzi constantly keeps the listener guessing, introducing unexpected twists and turns that maintain a sense of intrigue throughout. Tracks like ‘Due To An Error’ and ‘The Cat’s Nightdream’ are filled with eclectic and engaging moments that showcase Pirozzi's talent for crafting intricate and captivating soundscapes.

‘Still Burns’ stands out as a particular highlight, a magical journey through bright, psychedelic tones that evokes a sense of wonder and awe. And just when you think you have a grasp on the album's direction, the closing track ‘Empty Jar’ throws you for another loop. With its jangling atmosphere, heavy bass tones, searing guitar and off-kilter sounds, it leaves you feeling pleasantly disoriented, caught between worlds.

Pirozzi, a seasoned veteran of the progressive rock scene, has truly outdone himself with 'Glide'. It's an album that pushes boundaries and grabs the senses, offering a captivating listening experience that will leave you wanting more. If you're a fan of progressive rock or psychedelia, 'Glide' is an essential listen.
