The Bright Collide, the brainchild of Brian Maier, has emerged from the ashes of his previous band with a renewed energy and a sound that is both familiar and fresh. Originally intended as a solo project, it has blossomed into a full-fledged band with the addition of Matt Petersen on drums and Daniel Robbins on bass. And thank goodness it did, because the chemistry between these musicians is undeniable.
Their debut single, ‘Colorful Wishes’, is a glorious melting pot of influences, drawing on pop, post-punk, rock, and indie elements. It's a track that manages to be both commercially accessible and pleasingly underground at the same time. Delicate pop hooks intertwine with powerful rock riffs, all underpinned by infectious indie grooves. Maier's captivating vocals glide over the music, painting a picture of creative and emotional romance with an undercurrent of lyrical angst. The song has an undeniable pull, growing on you with each listen and constantly drawing you in.
Their second single, ‘The Hours’, released earlier this month, takes a slightly different tack. With opening lyrics like, "I'm counting the hours that confine each day, I'm kissing the hours and the minutes to the grave," the song dives into a darker, more introspective space that is backed perfectly by a wistful grunge sound. The music echoes the heavy era of the early 90s, bringing to mind bands like Third Eye Blind and Nirvana, while still being defiantly The Bright Collide. Guitars weave through a maelstrom of driven, steady percussion, creating a soundscape that is both nostalgic and emotive.
Although The Bright Collide has only been together for a few months, they've already made their mark, garnering praise online and carving out a unique path. With plans to return to the studio in January and release more music throughout 2025, the future looks incredibly bright for this talented trio.
If these two singles are anything to go by, The Bright Collide is a band to watch. They've successfully captured the spirit of the past while forging their own path, and I, for one, am eager to hear what they come up with next.
