Adult Leisure - 'Bad Idea'

Bristol-based melodic alt-indie four-piece Adult Leisure return with their new single ‘Bad Idea’, released today, taken from their upcoming second EP due later this year.

After previously helping to usher in Bristol's indie boom of the 2010's, guitarist David Woolford and bassist James Laing (Moon Club), vocalist and lyricist Neil Scott (Aztecs) and drummer Nathan Searle (Towers) came together to form Adult Leisure following a thirst to create during the pandemic, formed via countless video calls during the heart of 2020’s UK lockdown. Their critically acclaimed debut EP ‘The Weekend Ritual’ was released in December of 2022, championed by the likes of BBC Radio 1, Variance Magazine, The Independent and RTE which quickly saw the band embark on multiple tours throughout the UK earning a handful of rave live reviews along the way.

The follow up to December’s 'The Weekend Ritual', comes their latest single 'Bad Idea' written, recorded and produced by the band themselves and mixed by Ollie Searle.

'Bad Idea' is a powerful and introspective track that explores the complicated dynamics of unhealthy relationships. With a sound that is uniquely their own, this song showcases the band's raw talent and emotional depth. Through its danceable melody and relatable lyrics, with the single delving into the painful

truth that sometimes we accept unhappiness in order to maintain a sense of peace and stability. With its chanting vocals and soaring chorus, this track is sure to resonate with anyone who has ever struggled to come to terms with the complexities of love and human connection.

Reflecting on the single the band said, “'Bad idea’ is an honest answer to the relationships that we lie about to keep the peace, and avoid the new and unknown. It’s an introspective yet universal song of acceptance of unhappiness. It's a raw and honest take on the struggles we face in relationships, and it really solidifies the sound of our band. The lyrics are honest and relatable, and we hope that they will resonate with anyone who's ever been in a similar situation. We're really proud of this track, and we feel like it's a great representation of who we are as a band."

"If our first EP was an introduction, then Bad Idea is the conversation. It concretes who we are as a group and has finely tuned influences to create a more filtered and bigger sound.”

Adult Leisure will be taking the single live around the UK throughout June on their ‘Bad Idea Tour’, beginning on June 16th in London.
