Nashville based alt-pop artist Glass Dove is back in the spotlight with the release of some stunning new visuals for his single, ‘Hollywood Goldmine’. Assembling sweeping alternative pop anthems from shards of live guitar, MIDI, and synths, Glass Dove cleverly combines artistic seriousness with clever intuition on his new single, creating an atmospheric release that you won't want to miss.
A song that follows the narrative of an artist faced with the facade of the entertainment industry, Glass Dove explained his inspiration for 'Hollywood Goldmine', remarking, “[it] represents the gloss and glitz of Sunset Boulevard's empty promises. I wrote this song to address the exploitative objectification that artists face in an industry that demands years of sacrifice, only to often find no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.” The song features dark lyricism over a sombre indie pop melody, with avant-garde, meets vintage-inspired visuals that further accentuate the song's storyline.
“It started with me and Owen in a room with a laptop, a microphone, a MIDI controller, and a pocket synth,” he recalls. “It completely blossomed from there into something meaningful for me. The sound is meant to be much bigger than that. I try to approach it from a holistic standpoint and ask questions like, ‘Is this cathartic for me? Is it universal? Will it be cathartic for somebody else? How does it relate to what’s going on in the world?’ There’s a very serious side to the refinement process. I’m always dedicating myself to the craft of songwriting, getting better, and learning from the past in order to do something new.”
For as much as his past impacted the process, it really marked the start of a new chapter for Josh as Glass Dove. With Owen, he built a sound that’s as intimate as it is infectious, integrating this mélange of detuned acoustic guitars, vintage synths, and off-kilter beats
Dedicated to the art of songwriting, getting better and learning from the past to do something new, the music video reflects the restlessness and internal reflections of a creator for whom experimentation and questioning of everything we think we have learned is an imperative need. A catharsis that he reflects through music putting the pieces of his personal puzzle together.
