Gold Coast-based artist Juwan is back this week with his latest single and music video, ‘Something To Prove’, out via Forever Ever Records and Sony Music Entertainment Australia.
Following on from his debut single that was released in March this year, Juwan returns with his new single, produced by close collaborator, Sydney artist and producer SOLLYY. In true form, ‘Something To Prove’ solidifies Juwan’s arrival by combining authentic lyricism with gritty visuals directed Tonyteni Taulaga.
Speaking of the new single, Juwan added, “As soon as I was in the studio and heard SOLLYY play the beat for ‘Something to Prove’, I knew we had something special. At the time I was overcoming adversity with a lot of things in my life so when I wrote to the beat, my heart came out in my lyrics fluidly. Every time I link with SOLLYY I know we’ll create something magical and I feel like ‘Something to Prove’ is proof of that.”
A product of Māori and Samoan parents from Beach Haven, Aotearoa / New Zealand, Juwan, himself was born in Logan, Queensland and raised on the Gold Coast. He grew up listening to everything from Beach Haven’s own, Sir T, to the young GOAT, J. Cole, to the late great, Nipsey Hussle; absorbing their sounds, lyrics and messages that mixed with his own DNA to create something truly unique.
The release of ‘Something To Prove’ follows on from Juwan’s single ‘Vent’ which was also produced by Western Sydney artist/producer SOLLYY.
‘Vent’ was Juwan’s debut single release with Forever Ever Records and Sony Music Australia and was released with a music video directed by Tonyteni Taulaga and produced by Leyla Cetinkaya.
