Vibrant pop-punk purveyors Nonstop to Cairo have re-released their breakthrough single ‘Awkward Situations’ and set the stage for their new single ‘Not Today’, along with the new album ‘KAI’, due out later this year.
The New York Ska, hip-hop, and funk collective have been making waves of late thanks to the release of breakthrough single ‘Million Dollar Space’, but now they’re returning to their roots, re-release the titanic, funk-laden epic of ‘Awkward Situations’. Together, the tightknit band of August “ASH” Harris, Nick Diamond, Alex Turner, Ed Nevin, have been carving out an unstoppable path through the New York underground, and ‘Awkward Situations’ has been a big part of their success.
Packed to the brim with pop-punk elements, melodic rhythms, fast-paced riffs, and dynamic, rapid-fire rap verse, the single is the perfect illustration of what Nonstop to Cairo are all about. Speaking about the cut, vocalist ASH explained, “‘Awkward situations’ is a high energy relentless punk/rock song. It speaks to knowing that we can’t live in the nostalgia of our glory days, as a comfort for the road we must travel. Moving forward through obstacles is how you get to where you are going.”
The re-released single is available today (March 31st), and set the stage perfectly for the band as they gear up to debut a new song in April and their new album ‘KAI’ in May via collaboration with Rama Entertainment and Creative Entertainment Network/The Orchard, a division of Sony Music.
Titled ‘KAI’, the upcoming album from the band is named as a tribute to the band’s trumpet player/keyboardist Kevin Anand Itwaru, whose initials make up the album title. Itwaru passed away tragically just before KAI was recorded; and while the music was deepened by their grief, it’s also a celebration of life. Guitarist Nick Diamond added, "Our sophomore album ‘KAI’ is a celebration of life, dedicated to our friend, brother, and former member Kevin Anand Itwaru who passed away in 2020. The project is a great portrayal of the vision we created with him, as our sound is ever-evolving. ‘KAI’ is about the ups and downs of life, music, loss, and the connection needed to persevere.”
