Sydney rock outfit The Shang hit the music scene like a breath of fresh, surf air recently, delivering a brilliant debut single that is still doing the rounds in every Australian capital city. Today though, they’re ready to share their latest single, detailing the story of a relationship in the midst of a communication breakdown with the brilliant ‘All For Show’.
The main rhythmic elements of the track started as an idea for the Triple J Unearthed DIY Supergroup competition which had been brought to the studio session as the basis for experimentation. Heading to the studio, The Shang walked in with a handful of ideas and plenty of creative energy taking a fresh direction with more electronic and hip-hop influence as opposed to their previous rock ballad approach. They have also teamed up with director Michael Conlon to work on an accompanying music video.
The band says, “we wanted to highlight how the contrast between the heavier style of the verse and the lighter, airy choruses illustrate how a lack of communication can make things seem fine and happy without confronting any issues, but also shows the internal build-up of negative emotions as heard in the verses.”
‘All For Show’ is the follow-up single for their earlier 2021 release, ‘Here I Stand’ which gave them performance opportunities with Beddy Rays, Pacific Avenue, and an unfortunately cancelled tour with Majak Door. They also received airplay from triple j’s Declan Byrne saying ‘that chorus will pick you up and take you on the best third date you've ever had. It's also got space but the anthemic rushes and outpourings really make you feel things.’
The Shang are set to follow up the rest of 2021 with a string of new releases and shows, already working on new material with in-demand producer/engineer Jack Nigro.
