WHO SHOT SCOTT, the brainchild of Auckland-based producer Zaidoon Nasir, is back with a vengeance. Known for his experimental hip-hop and explosive live shows, he's dropping ‘THE DATA’, the second single from his upcoming EP ‘BRAIN (SIDE B)’. ‘THE DATA’ is an anti-conformist anthem born from a deeply personal experience. “I had one of the most soul-sucking experiences of my life earlier this year at a music seminar hosted by perhaps the biggest social media company in the world,” WHO SHOT SCOTT explains. “The whole event kept pushing a false narrative that they were there to help artists, when in reality, there was a clear self-serving agenda to keep us in the grips of their business-first, art-second mentality.”
This encounter fuelled a fire in Nasir, inspiring him to create a track that rages against the machine. “This song is my ‘fuck you’ to the conformity,” he declares. ‘THE DATA’ is a visceral reaction to the pressure artists face to compromise their vision for the sake of algorithms and online engagement. It’s a call to arms for anyone who feels suffocated by the relentless demands of the digital age.
The accompanying music video, directed by Connor Pritchard, perfectly captures the track's raw energy.
