Will Baker Makes a Dynamic Return with Indie Pop Anthem 'Eddie'

Sydney's rising star Will Baker has unveiled his second single of 2024, the captivating and expertly crafted indie-pop gem, 'Eddie'. Building on the success of his earlier release, 'Racing Car', Baker continues to impress with 'Eddie', showcasing his exceptional songwriting talent and a smooth, infectious vocal delivery that seems destined for greatness.

The track delves into the complexities of past relationships and the pain of watching old friends stray from their chosen paths as life unfolds. Reflecting on the song's inspiration, Baker shares, "Eddie is about watching people you grow up with turn into people that they said they would never be."

The track was mixed and produced by Luke Bertoz at the renowned YAP-YAP Studios (Lime Cordiale, DMA's, Bluejuice), with mastering by Ben Feggans (Sampa the Great, Vera Blue, and RÜFÜS DU SOL), resulting in a polished and tight production that perfectly complements Baker's distinctive, raspy vocals. The rhythm section stands out as particularly powerful, building subtly throughout the verses and erupting with a vibrant energy as the chorus hits.

The band's tight chemistry on the track is no accident, as Baker collaborated closely with drummer Giacomo Benventu throughout the writing process, creating a song that has become a fan favourite at recent gigs. Baker reveals, "I wrote this song one night with my drummer Giac. We were in love with it straight away. Was a super easy process and a song that the whole band looks forward to playing every gig. I remember wanting to write a song about one of my mates who was going down a bad path."

Accompanying the single is a visually stunning music video, directed by Harry Corcoran and Baker himself. The video draws inspiration from iconic rock and roll figures, featuring glitter, makeup, and 70s-inspired flair that perfectly aligns with the track's style and vibe. Baker reflects on the video shoot, saying, "The music video was nuts. The theme was very rock n roll which we all bought into very well. First time I've ever worn makeup as well, haha. Loved every second of the shoot day."

Since the release of his debut EP 'Time Machine' last year, Will Baker has garnered increasing support from radio, press, and streaming platforms, including airplay on NOVA, triple J Unearthed, SYN, and 4ZZZ, along with over 150,000 streams across platforms. With over 5,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and a combined social media following of over 10,000, Baker's trajectory is undeniably impressive for such an early stage in his career. Judging by the quality of 'Eddie', Will Baker's future looks exceptionally bright as he continues to make his mark on the Australian music scene.
