A Brazilian native who has been widely regarded as the ‘sound of the future’, Ꮜpae is arguably one of the most experimental musicians to grace the Swiss music scene in recent memory. With a talent for blending genres, styles, and sounds into a maelstrom of dark, electronic melodies, Ꮜpae has been celebrated by fans and critics from all across the globe, and now, with the release of his new single ‘Zero’, he’s continued to push boundaries and build his reputation.
A fan of future sounds and modern technology, Ꮜpae consistently utilises new techniques and equipment to make his fresh lo-fi sounds, dabbling in sparse ambient melodies and kaleidoscopic scales to create the most involving and enticing music that he possibly can. From simple computers to complex instruments, analogue machines, and elevated digital interfaces, Ꮜpae has created a sound that is entirely his own.
Recently, Ꮜpae explained the latest extension of his sound and style, detailing a more synth-based sound that is reflected in his new single. He also outlined an inventive new project designed to blur the lines between music and reality, he explained “This year I decided to study piano and venture into the world of synths and modulation. I found in sound a new way to create interaction with the viewer and user. The first launch of UPAE was a game called ‘Press-Space’. The player does not have an imposed objective. He uses the mouse and touches elements of the scene with a ball to generate sounds”.
Taking lead from this innovation, Ꮜpae’s new single is more present and powerful than ever, offering a highly organic sound that evolved from the creative process. More than just a singular piece, ‘Zero’ is the start of an expansive musical chain, one that Ꮜpae was keen to see grow and evolve. He continued, “When I realised how much I liked the music, I finished mastering it and started launching it on all platforms to understand the audience's response. ‘Zero’ is also the first audio-visual piece that will be selling on blockchain”.
