After forming in 2018 as a punchy solo project, 2 Colours Blue have evolved to become one of the most promising bands on our radar. Forming officially as a band in 2021, the five-piece of Dan Hack, James Pye, Neil Smith, Andy Wood, and Andy Knox, have developed an invigorating acoustic pop sound, and on the 27th of May this year, they’ll be treating us all to their brilliant debut single.
Armed with a contemporary songwriting style that is heavily influences by bands and artists such as Matchbox Twenty, George Ezra and Imagine Dragons, 2 Colour Blue exist in a vibrant space between modern pop, timeless Americana, and more triumphant indie rock. After taking to the stage in August 2021 for their first performance, the band have been winning over fans and critics alike, building momentum and going from one success to another.
Their debut single, and the first glimpse into their upcoming and currently untitled EP, ‘Footnote’ is everything we’ve come to love about 2 Colours Blue and more, capturing a punchy, optimistic melody that cascades over a textured acoustic rock core. A song that artfully delivers the best of both genres, it’s a track the perfectly embodies the band’s fun-loving sound, along with that sense of freedom that comes from finally escaping a toxic relationship.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the new single on their website, the band explained, “’Footnote’ was written in the summer of 2017 and is ultimately a song about acceptance - this was a goal I was striving for at the time as I was trying let go of past hurt due to a relationship breakdown and to move forwards with my life. Writing this was part of that healing process and was the first original song I performed live in eighteen years.”
