Afrobaby Finds the 'Lighter' Side of Anxiety With Her Stellar New Single

Bradford-based artist Afrobaby has gifted us with 'Lighter', a track that beautifully blends electronic, alternative R&B, UK garage, and downtempo house elements. The result is an utterly fabulous sound that compels and mesmerises, reminiscent of Everything But The Girl's early work, but with a distinctly modern twist.

Over carefully crafted washes of synth and gentle beats, Afrobaby's voice conveys raw emotion and truth. 'Lighter' is a deeply personal exploration of her experiences with anxiety, a subject particularly poignant for Black women who are often expected to project an image of unwavering strength. As Afrobaby herself explains, “The track is my way of pushing back against the idea that I always have to be strong. This song is about embracing vulnerability and acknowledging how social anxiety affects me, while striving to feel lighter and braver despite these challenges.”

This vulnerability resonates deeply. In a society where mental health is increasingly acknowledged, it's refreshing to hear an artist speak with such honesty. Many, myself included, will instantly connect with the feelings and experiences woven into the lyrics. It's this baring of her soul that makes 'Lighter' so special. Combined with the beautiful music, it truly becomes a jewel of a song.

'Lighter' is a tantalising glimpse into Afrobaby's upcoming debut EP, 'Safe Space', due for release in November. The EP promises to delve deeper into themes of mental health, self-discovery, and love, offering an intimate look into her world. If 'Lighter' is anything to go by, with its exploration of social anxiety, the EP is set to be a powerful and moving collection of songs that explore the complexities of the human experience.
