Guernsey grunge rock band Coastal Fire Dept. aren’t finished throttling 2023 with new music. Recently, the band have shared four punky grungy songs that were left over from their album recording sessions for ‘Outsiders’. Packed into a new EP titled 'Flood The Saltpans…Save The Vale’, which is due out early next year, the band have recently shared new cut 'Regret'.
Our first glimpse of the EP, 'Regret' tells the true story of an embarrassing night out in St Helen’s. A personal track for frontman Ollie, who now holds this night as a particular regret, the track was built around Nada Surf’s 1996 hit single ‘Popular’, which was a primary musical influence for the single, so much so that Matthew Caws of Nada Surf recently gave ‘Regret’ his seal of approval.
Previously, the acclaimed post-grunge band has shared an impressive reworking of the Pixies’ classic 'Gouge Away', releasing it via L’islet Records. Guitarist and vocalist Ollie remarking, “‘Gouge Away’ is a cover of the Pixies’ classic track. Often compared to the Pixies, we pay homage by putting our spin on the song that tells the story of Samson & Delilah. It’s recorded a little quicker than the original with added dynamics. We are proud of it; it’s an upbeat version with big choruses and a new almighty ending.”
Born in 2013 and hailing from Guernsey, Coastal Fire Dept. feature guitarist and vocalist Ollie Goddard, bassist Saad Frihmat, and Ozzy Austin on drums. Possessing an arsenal of premium releases comprised of 2019’s debut mini-album, Control, 2020’s much lauded, Radio EP, last year’s first fully fledged album, 'Connected', and their standalone single, 'You’re Stuck', where the band joined forces with Ken Andrews (Failure, Stone Temple Pilots, Chris Cornell), Coastal Fire Dept. have a unique quality to deliver constant releases and at a hugely productive rate.
