Ahead of his debut Australian tour, Juno award-winning Canadian artist Donovan Woods has released ‘116 West Main, Durham, NC’, a poignant track from his upcoming seventh studio album, ‘Things Were Never Good If They’re Not Good Now’.
Inspired by a hopeful day in Durham, North Carolina, Woods shares, "I wrote this in a green room at The Carolina Theatre in Durham. I had a great day walking around (really nice town), and I was feeling hopeful. This is what passes as hopeful for me.” The song is a reflection on self-forgiveness and moving on, set to the backdrop of a sunny day and the uplifting sound of saxophones.
Woods' Australian tour, kicking off on June 13th, will feature intimate solo shows across the country, with local artist Hayley Warner as support. In a heartwarming gesture, $1 from each ticket sold will be donated to Support Act, a charity providing crisis relief and mental health support to music industry professionals.
Over the past decade, Woods has built a dedicated following with his heartfelt storytelling and captivating live performances. His popularity soared in 2020 with the release of the ‘Without People’ album, tours alongside The Gaslight Anthem, and his music being featured on US television.
‘Things Were Never Good If They’re Not Good Now’ promises to be Woods' most personal and introspective album yet. The 12-track collection delves into the complexities of life and the artist's own journey of self-discovery since his 2020 breakthrough. Featuring collaborations with notable songwriters and artists like Amy Wadge, Matt Prime, William Prince, and Madi Diaz, the album is a testament to Woods' evolution as a songwriter and his willingness to address the raw truths of life.
