Brighton-based drummer, composer, and collaborator Fred Hills has unveiled his latest musical offering, a track titled 'Begin Again'. This release marks a departure from his earlier work, showcasing a new blend of indie, folk, and dream-pop elements.
'Begin Again' is an uplifting song about finding your feet during difficult times and mental health. Heartfelt & sincere with a catchy chorus and intertwining guitar solos, this song is well suited for a long country walk or a slow day at home. With elements of indie, folk, and dream-pop, 'Begin Again' was produced by multi-instrumentalist & arranger Andrew Stuart-Buttle (Bess Atwell, Lucy Rose, Samantha Crain). For fans of White Denim, Villagers, Damien Jurado & Nathaniel Rateliff.
The track, with its infectious chorus and delicately interwoven guitar solos, is a sonic balm for troubled times. It evokes a sense of hope and resilience, making it the perfect companion for a contemplative stroll through the countryside or a quiet day spent indoors.
Hills' musical journey has been one of exploration and evolution. Drawing inspiration from a diverse palette of genres, including contemporary jazz, alt-folk, and progressive indie, he has crafted a unique sound that defies easy categorisation. His earlier work, including the EP 'Incerto', hinted at this eclectic approach, with its 'tapestry of delicate and expressive guitars, eloquent strings and colourful rhythms', as described by BBC Introducing.
Hills' versatility as a musician is evident in his collaborations with a variety of artists, including Ellie Ford, Michael Baker, Time for T, and Mara Simpson. He has also lent his compositional talents to theatre, creating music for 'Something Underground's acclaimed play 'Knife on The Table'.
With 'Begin Again', Hills has created a song that resonates on a deeper level, offering solace and encouragement to listeners. It is a testament to his ability to weave together diverse musical influences into a cohesive and compelling whole. This track is not just a beginning for listeners, but also a new chapter in Fred Hills' musical journey.
