Cork-based singer, songwriter, and producer, Fintan McKahey is back in the spotlight with the release of his new single ‘Lost Balloons’, which officially premiered a few days ago on August 27th. A textured, lo-fi acoustic song that is effortlessly emotive and nostalgic, it’s become an instant favourite among Fintan’s fans, and for a very good reason.
Featuring Fintan’s signature smoky vocals and pristine production that flow above a mellow beat, layered guitars and ambient sounds, ‘Lost Balloons’ sees the talented musician reflecting on how the pressures of modern life can become so overwhelming. Speaking candidly about the single, Fintan explained, “‘Lost Balloons’ is an ode to the slow life, a gentle reminder to take a breath and let life unfold at its own pace. Letting go can be the most liberating feeling there is.”
A low-fi indie singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, Fintan has been active in the music world since 2016, but it was his sophomore EP ‘God Games’ that really put him on the radar. Released in 2019, the EP received widespread critical acclaim on release and set in motion a string of impressive singles and releases throughout 2020, many of which went on to achieve national radio play and press acclaim.
The song was recorded and produced by Fintan in his newly built space, Ivy Hill Studios. Built by Fintan and his team during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the studio has grown to offer a variety of audio and visual services.
Since the onset of COVID, he has been busy building Ivy Hill Studios. He was also named as a Hot Press Magazine ‘Hot for 2021’ artist, performed at the Hot Press Y&E Series, and did some successful ticketed live streams.
