Perth’s music scene stalwart, Joe Caddy, best known as the charismatic frontman of Figurehead, has unveiled his highly anticipated debut solo album, ‘Learning to Tell the Truth’. This remarkable release, the result of a year’s dedication and artistry, promises to captivate listeners with its soulful vocals, lush string arrangements, and memorable melodies.
Joe’s musical journey, which began at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), has reached a new milestone with this solo endeavour. He enlisted the talents of his brother, Danny Caddy of Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, alongside Luke Parish (Psychedelic Porn Crumpets and People Taking Pictures) and renowned jazz musician and producer Brodie Stewart, to bring this ambitious project to fruition.
‘Learning to Tell the Truth’ is an intimate reflection of Joe’s personal growth and artistic vision. The album delves into themes of romance and longing, woven through evocative lyrics and soul-stirring melodies that invite listeners on an immersive journey. Joe explains, “This album tackles themes of romance and longing, drawn from personal experience and the ruminations of my heart.”
The album’s creation spanned a year, during which Joe released four successful singles, each contributing to the cohesive storytelling of the final collection. Recorded in the tranquil Kalamunda hills, the album captures the serenity and introspection of its surroundings. Joe even incorporated the unique timbre of a cherished family piano, adding a layer of personal history to the music.
Joe’s artistic talents extend beyond music; he has created original paintings for the album's artwork and hand-drawn animations for his music videos, further showcasing his creative versatility.
To celebrate the release of ‘Learning to Tell the Truth’, Joe will perform the album in full at the Indian Ocean Hotel in Scarborough on May 17th. Excitement is building for the event, which features a diverse lineup of support acts and promises a live string arrangement. Joe shares his enthusiasm: “The ‘Learning to Tell the Truth’ album launch party will take place at the esteemed Indian Ocean Hotel, two days before my birthday. With a diverse and dynamic lineup of support acts, I will be playing the album in its entirety, with a few other musical treats in the mix (as well as a live string arrangement!)”
This debut album is more than just a collection of songs; it’s a testament to Joe Caddy’s authenticity, artistic evolution, and unwavering passion for music.
