Singer-songwriter Omar Apollo has announced his highly anticipated sophomore album, 'God Said No', set for release on June 28th. The album, a follow-up to his critically acclaimed debut 'Ivory', promises a raw and emotional journey through the aftermath of a tumultuous love affair.
Apollo offers a taste of the album's sonic landscape with the new single 'Dispose of Me', accompanied by a captivating live performance video featuring a 14-piece ensemble. The song, like the album itself, is deeply personal and draws inspiration from poets like Mary Oliver and Victoria Chang.
'God Said No' was born out of a period of intense introspection for Apollo. Following the whirlwind success of his debut and extensive touring, he retreated to London, seeking solace in rainy walks and the words of poets. He explains, "I gave it my everything, And God said 'no.'"
The 14-track album, executive produced by Teo Halm, was recorded in London's Abbey Road Studios and features collaborations with musician Mustafa and actor Pedro Pascal. It delves into themes of heartbreak, acceptance, and the bittersweet reality of love's impermanence, captured in the album title's interpretation of the Spanish phrase "lo que sera, sera."
'Dispose of Me' follows the album's lead single, 'Spite', and its accompanying iconic music video. Apollo, who recently made a splash at the Met Gala, has garnered widespread recognition for his ability to blend genres and languages, culminating in a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist in 2023.
'God Said No' is poised to be a significant milestone in Omar Apollo's career, showcasing his growth as an artist and his willingness to bare his soul through music. Fans can stream 'Dispose of Me' and watch the live performance video now, with more news on the album expected soon.
