Coastal Fire Dept. – ‘You Are Stuck’

Formed in 2013 from a shared love of everything alt-rock, Coastal Fire Dept. have been carving up the picturesque Channel Islands with their unrelenting and heavy-hitting sound. A dedicated four-piece who have built their sound from a deft mix of grunge, stoner rock, shoegaze and lo-fi influences, Coastal Fire Dept. have become the leading purveyors of ‘Grunge From The Vale’, a unique style that perfectly reflects their expressive sound.

Signed to L’islet Records, the band first came to prominence with the release of their debut mini-album, ‘Control’, back in 2019. An explosive seven-track release that echoed legendary bands like Nirvana, Queens of the Stone Age, Royal Blood, and Swervedriver, ‘Control’ was a brash and stormy statement of intent that well and truly put the band on the map. Now, less than a year on from their acclaimed debut, the band are back in the spotlight with and new single and plans for a titanic follow-up record.

Titled ‘You Are Stuck’, the new single was written with a positive message in mind, layering several different influences into one titanic release. Recorded at Apocalypse Studios in Guernsey with long-time collaborator Mikey Ferbrache and mixed by Ken Andrews (Failure, Chris Cornell, Paramore, Stone Temple Pilots etc) at Red Swan Studios, Los Angeles, the new single is a blistering statement of intent that lays the foundation for things to come.

Opening with a deep breath and a dawn chorus, ‘You Are Stuck’ displays sharp pop sensibilities that hold your gaze before plunging into a dark rollercoaster of grunge/alt-rock twists and turns. Backed by a massive resonating outro that is heavily influenced by nostalgic shoegaze, the single hits hard and then keep on hitting, pushing on relentlessly until it ends with a twist that you won’t see coming.

Available now on Spotify and Bandcamp, it’s the first taste of what’s to come when Coastal Fire Dept.’s new album drops later this summer.
