PONZ Expands Her Sonic Palette And Drops Dreamy New Single 'Fantasies'

Tāmaki Makaurau-based artist PONZ, aka Lauren Pondes, continues to evolve her sound with the release of her latest single, 'Fantasies'. Released today, the track marks a departure from her drum and bass roots, incorporating elements of UK Garage and House music.

Since bursting onto the scene in 2020, PONZ has quickly become a staple in the New Zealand music scene, collaborating with renowned artists and performing at major festivals across the country. Her debut EP, 'Can We Go Back', garnered nearly 100,000 streams and further cemented her status as a rising star.

"When I started writing Fantasies I was focusing on painting a story and making the lyrics very visual,” says Pondes. “As soon as I completed the verse and begun the production phase, Ben and I added in the plucks which you can hear throughout the song.”

The dreamy new single, co-produced with Ben Shaw, was born during a Covid delirium and explores the feeling of meeting someone through what feels like destiny, choosing to live in the moment. The track features liquid breaks, dark synth pads, and PONZ's signature hushed vocals, creating a hypnotic soundscape that transports listeners to another world.

With 'Fantasies', PONZ showcases her versatility as an artist, seamlessly blending genres and pushing the boundaries of her own creativity. The single is available now on all major streaming platforms.
