Rising alt-country star and musical rule-breaker Podge Lane is back, delivering a brand new single fuelled by grit, rebellion, and a heavy rock edge. Titled 'Down', the new single is a powerful preview of his upcoming third studio album, and ties in perfectly with his 'Sad But Tourable' UK tour dates.
'Down' is a powerful anthem of defiance against negativity and self-doubt. Lane's trademark honesty shines through, but this time with distorted vocals and fierce electric guitar riffs, hinting at a bolder sonic direction for the artist. As he explained, Lane expounds; “'Down' is every comment, every criticism made by the people around you, and even by yourself, that makes you think you aren’t good enough. Wrapped in a neat little bow, that was then dipped in paint, ripped up and set on fire.”
While Lane's classic influences like John Prine and The Avett Brothers are still evident, 'Down' also channels the raw energy of T-Rex and The White Stripes, adding a new layer to his celebrated sound. This blend perfectly reflects Lane's established reputation for pushing alt-country boundaries and twisting traditional themes.
Previously praised by outlets like Golden Plec, Hot Press, and American Songwriter, Lane is known for his insightful lyrics and unique musical style. His 'Sad But Tourable' UK shows have been delivering a captivating blend of this signature sound, seasoned with his new rock-flavored attitude, and of course, a dose of well-timed humor.
The tour has seen Podge Lane performing across the UK at venues like The TAP Social Movement in Oxford and London's The Spice of Life. You can catch Podge performing at Norwich's Anteros Arts Foundation tonight (March 22nd).
