quicktemper, the brainchild of Brazilian artist Melissa de Britto, invites listeners on a sonic journey with her latest single, 'Conjectura'. This captivating track seamlessly blends downtempo and glitch-hop elements, creating a mesmerising and evocative experience that will stay with you for days on end.
De Britto, who draws inspiration from a diverse range of experimental electronic musicians like Tame Impala, Boards of Canada, Bonobo, and Aphex Twin, crafts a sound that resonates with those who appreciate the nuances of electronic music. Her compositions are steeped in nostalgic tones, inviting listeners to connect with the music on a personal level and reflect their own experiences.
Opening with ambient melodic tones that gently shift in pitch, 'Conjectura' creates a soft yet engaging introduction. As the track progresses, de Britto expertly layers digital tones with tempered beats and lingering organic sounds, constantly building upon glistening foundations to create a lavish, unforgettable sound. Throughout, the song is a constantly evolving soundscape that feels both organic and meticulously crafted, a testament to de Britto's ability to craft immersive and emotive soundscapes. The track's hypnotic blend of electronic and organic elements creates a truly captivating listening experience.
"I like to focus on abstractions, textures, and sensations," de Britto explains. "I create primarily instrumental music that allows listeners to interpret and feel the soundscapes through their own personal experiences."
De Britto's musical journey began in Goiânia, Brazil, a city with a vibrant alternative music scene that has significantly influenced her artistic perspective. Growing up surrounded by a thriving skateboarding culture, with her father owning one of the city's first skate shops, de Britto was exposed to a unique blend of urban and rural influences that have shaped her creative vision.
Before embarking on her solo project as quicktemper, de Britto was a member of the band Nubro. The band independently released one album, which de Britto says is “really good and mature in artistic terms.”
With quicktemper, de Britto aims to create music that transcends cultural and geographical boundaries. "My ultimate goal is to create music that speaks a universal language, bridging cultural and geographical gaps through sound and emotional resonance," she shares.
