Slip the DJ - ‘Focus’

  • 1 min read

Recently, we were elated to find out that one of our favourite breakbeat producers was back in action, releasing new tracks after three years away. It started a few months ago, with the welcome return to form anthem of ‘Inside’, and has pushed on each month with a powerful stockpile of tracks.

Recently, we fell in love with Slip’s atmospheric, house rework of ‘Suspicious Minds’, noting that marked change in sound since we last heard from Slip, and celebrating the fresh sense of self that he's worked hard to cultivate throughout his years away. Now, we’re taking a look at another standout single from the last few months, the vibrant and technicolored ‘Focus’.

A track that is caught between his classic breakbeat style and more matured, melodic sounds, ‘Focus’ takes you by surprise, building from rhythmic beats to a gorgeous explosion of sound. It's a brilliant, well cultivated moment when the song hits, proving that Slip has lost known of his edge or vibrancy throughout his time away.

Speaking with us about the new singles and direction, Slip explained, “My sound has matured and slowly turned away from true breakbeat music… I’ve gone into a melodic house of even deep house groove with my written music and my DJ sets. Something new never hurts.”

Along with the release of ‘Focus’, nine more original tracks have appeared on Slip's Spotify page, including ‘Inside’, ‘Little By Little’, and the acclaimed ‘SPM’. Make sure you check out his social media and streaming links below so you can hear them all.
