Stoned Sloth – ‘Frankenstein Philosophy’

  • 2 min read

An alternative rock band from the muddy banks of the Connecticut River, Stoned Sloth first caught our eye late last year with the release of their own twisted Christmas singles. With reworkings of old classics, the band put their spin on tracks like ‘You’re a Mean One Mr Grinch’ and ‘Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer’, swapping out the traditional values for something more intoxicating.

While their satires and reworks were enough to keep us all going this Christmas season, it’s the band’s latest single that has really shone through into 2022. Titled ‘Frankenstein Philosophy’, the new cut is a hazy mashup of heavy grunge and shifting alt-rock, layering driving guitars, rhythmic drums, and stark, haunting vocals to create an experience like few others.

Hitting with force, ‘Frankenstein Philosophy’ emerges with a rough-and-ready style, cutting through the silence with a wave of harsh, but brilliant sounds, to deliver one of the most instantly captivating tracks of the last few years. With a bold, dominant style that leans perfectly on heavy grunge origins, the track hits with unimitable force, creating a dark cacophony of sounds that will draw you in and drag you under in a heartbeat.

Speaking about the new cut, the band explained it was “a metaphor of mental health issues and how society decides to deal with it”, and throughout the piece that becomes all too clear. With music that careens from straight shots of old school anthemics to slightly unhinged modern rock, everything about the song reflects the hard realities of lives that are all too frequently forgotten, misunderstood and mistreated by society.

Available now on all major platforms, including Spotify above, ‘Frankenstein Philosophy’ is an epic, drug-fuelled discovery, and if they can keep producing tracks that hit just as hard, then 2022 is going to be a big year for them.

Check out the new single above, and make sure you keep an eye out for their debut self-titled album when it drops on the 28th of January 2022.
