Sydney-based artist Tash Wolf has returned with her electrifying new single, ‘The Deal’, following her dynamic debut ‘Electric Blue’ earlier this year. This latest release showcases Wolf’s unbridled energy and confident songwriting, cementing her status as a rising star in the pop-licked rock scene.
‘The Deal’ is a powerful blend of driving riffs and meticulously produced electronics that hits hard and leaves listeners eager for more. The track delves into themes of introspection and the instability of early relationships, capturing the emotional whirlwind of desire and uncertainty. "The story unfolded from the feelings I was having at the time. I was losing myself to someone whose intention didn’t match their words," Wolf explains. The chorus, with its compelling line, “When we go up and down, I don’t know how to feel…”, encapsulates the emotional highs and lows of a tumultuous relationship.
Written with renowned producer Ethan Schneiderman (Julian Casablancas, Rosa Linn) and Dutch writer Blanks (Simon De Wit), ‘The Deal’ draws inspiration from early sonic influences like The White Stripes’ ‘Seven Nation Army’. Wolf describes the creative process: “We thought the song needed an edgy-sounding guitar riff, so we started writing the riff in Drop D Tuning to fit the pulsing kick drum. Guitarist at heart, I felt compelled to use the instrument in a unique way. The guitar slides you hear were tracked by Ethan, using a slide and a volume pedal on his Les Paul. We ended up using a combination of my demo vocals from the day; ‘rock-starring it’, according to Ethan, as I held the SM7 to belt those high chorus vocals.”
Tash Wolf’s journey in music began at an early age, influenced by her parents’ love for The Beatles and David Bowie, and later, guitar legends like Jimi Hendrix and John Mayer. Her modern influences include Haim, Arctic Monkeys, and St Vincent. Wolf’s online presence has grown substantially, with her original and cover material resonating with audiences and earning her spots on Spotify editorial playlists.
Having collaborated with artists such as Dave Stewart (The Eurythmics), Mike Shinoda (Linkin Park), and Bryan Adams, Wolf’s diverse talent continues to impress. With ‘The Deal’, she steps confidently into the spotlight, showing that her journey is just beginning. Fans can also look forward to seeing her perform with Australian pop sensation Charley on tour with American artist Fletcher in Australia and New Zealand this July.
