The Montagues are undoubtedly one of the best new bands to come out of Wales in recent years and their upcoming new single 'Come Closer' further cements this claim.
A classic indie-rock anthem reminiscent of the greats such as The Manic Street Preachers and it's sure to be a massive hit for the lads. Hailing from the shadows of yesteryear and bygone family holiday destinations, soaked in the nostalgia of the sights and smells evoked by amusement arcades and fun fairs of the North Wales Coast, The Montagues areKyle Parry on lead vocals and guitar,Jack Mayall on guitar,Jonny Taylor on bass,Jack Wells on drums andOli Harman on keys, who togetherdeliver a layered, anthemic yet melodic sound.
The band’s latest release ‘Come Closer’ is a heart warming, earworm of a track filled with a nostalgia you recognise but quite can’t figure out. With an infectious guitar riff and lyrics focusing on the light at the end of the tunnel post Covid, ‘Come Closer’ will have you nodding along in unity and clicking that repeat button. With its pounding drums, thumping bass lines and synth sections, ‘Come Closer’ has all the feel good vibes of the safety and innocence of happy childhood memories, wrapped up in a magnificent stadium sized tune.
Lyrically, ‘Come Closer’ was written as an ode to people being able to come together again after the pandemic “The pinks out of your eyes, you’re a freak in your disguise, it’s over, won’t you come closer” hinting at the square eyes we all gained from staring at screens for too long and the masks we all wore as disguises.
Guitar driven and accompanied by punchy bass lines and hook induced vocals,The Montagues embody everything that is looked for and loved in a modern indie band. Lyrically influenced by the stories of a working-class Welsh town, desperately trying to cling onto the highs of days gone by, you can't help but get wrapped up in the nostalgia of their relatable tales.
