Townsville's indie-punk heroes Poison Oak are back with a bang, dropping their brand new single 'Tell Me'. This anthemic track dives deep into the complexities of human connection, exploring the feeling of losing someone you care about, not physically, but emotionally and mentally.
Imagine someone you know, maybe a close friend or family member, going through the motions of life but feeling completely disconnected from their former self. They're there, but not really there. That's the essence of 'Tell Me'. The song paints a picture of someone struggling with the monotony of suburban life, where everything looks familiar but feels strangely empty. It dives into the internal battles we all face, the pressures of societal expectations, and the struggle to maintain a sense of self amidst the chaos and uncertainty of everyday life.
"'Tell Me' is about asking where someone has gone, not necessarily in a physical sense, but in a spiritual and mental sense," the band explains. "They’re present, but not the person they used to be. The song reflects on the struggles they have experienced, feeling trapped in a cycle of routine and disconnection within the suburbs, where everything looks familiar but feels empty. Dealing with the pressures of everyday life, like expectations from family or society, while facing internal struggles that others don’t see. Hence leaving them to be disconnected from who they once were.”
Set against driving punk riffs and urgent vocals, the song fearlessly confronts the repetitive routines of suburban life and the expectations from society, family, and friends, that can push individuals to the edge.
This latest release follows hot on the heels of their previous single 'Wasted', a high-energy track that gave fans a taste of what's to come from their upcoming second album. Recorded with acclaimed producer Brock Weston, who has previously worked with Aussie rock giants like Bugs, Beddy Rays, and Dune Rats, the album promises to be a knockout.
Poison Oak have been making waves in the Australian music scene, with 'Wasted' receiving rave reviews and their recent support slot for DZ Deathrays solidifying their reputation as a force to be reckoned with. With 'Tell Me' showcasing their introspective side and hinting at the depth of their forthcoming album, Poison Oak are undoubtedly a band to watch.
