Veronica Fusaro is back with a bang! Her new single, 'Slot Machine', is a vibrant and catchy tune that tackles the very modern addiction to our phones. Think shimmering guitars reminiscent of Portugal. The Man's 'Feel It Still' mixed with the raw vocal power of Alabama Shakes and a touch of Avril Lavigne's pop-rock sensibility.
Fusaro's vocals are the star of the show, effortlessly gliding over the infectious melody. She's got a knack for storytelling, and 'Slot Machine' is no exception. The song delves into the hold our phones have on us, that constant need to check for updates, the endless stream of information and entertainment. As Fusaro herself puts it, "The song is about the little 'magic box' we all carry with us – our phones – and the constant stream of entertainment and information they provide. I realised how dangerously addictive they can be, almost like a slot machine, constantly pulling us in.
This isn't just a catchy tune though; there's real depth to Fusaro's lyrics. She explores the paradox of feeling empty despite being constantly bombarded with content, singing, "Why do I feel so down?". It's a sentiment that's sure to resonate with anyone who's ever felt the pressure to keep up with the digital world..
'Slot Machine' marks a new chapter for Fusaro, who describes it as a return to her rock roots. She's assembled an international team to bring the track to life, with production by Swedish songwriter and producer Kim Wennerstrøm and mastering by Finland's Jonas W. Karlsson.
This single follows Fusaro's successful 2023 debut album, 'All the Colours of the Sky', which reached #5 on the Swiss charts. She's no stranger to the stage either, having performed over 500 shows, including opening for Dire Straits legend Mark Knopfler and gracing the iconic stages of Glastonbury and Montreux Jazz Festival.
With a new album on the horizon for 2025, 'Slot Machine' is just a taste of what's to come from this talented Swiss-Italian artist. Fusaro's passion for music shines through in every note, and her ability to transform everyday inspiration into compelling songs is truly a gift. As she says, "Great music makes me tick, but really it could be anything…And I somehow feel the need to transform this inspiration into words and music."
