Evie Irie Returns with Heartfelt Ode to Best Friend, 'Laila'

Evie Irie, one of Australia's most exciting voices in pop music, is back with a brand new single, 'Laila'. This gorgeous pop lullaby is a heartfelt tribute to her best friend, Laila, and marks Irie's first release of 2024. Out now via Melbourne-based indie label Class Action Records, 'Laila' is a testament to Irie's growth as an artist and her ability to craft deeply personal and relatable music.

Recorded in Sydney with GRAMMY and ARIA-winning producer Eric J. Dubowsky (Flume, St. Vincent), "Laila" is a beautifully produced track with warm, vibrant soundscapes, soaring falsettos, and an ethereal chorus. The song perfectly showcases Irie's sophisticated approach to pop melodies and her talent for creating music that is both catchy and emotionally resonant.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, Irie explains: “I originally wrote ‘Laila’ during the COVID-19 pandemic when I was back in Australia after leaving my life in LA. Being away from my best friend, Laila, was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. She is my rock and soulmate, and she’s been there for me through every dark moment."

"Not being able to be with her during that time was unbelievably difficult. It was her 18th birthday, and I struggled to find a present that could truly show my love. Since I couldn’t fly to see her, I ended up writing and gifting her this song. It’s a piece of my heart, a love song, that binds best friends together.”

'Laila' is a significant step forward for Irie, who has been making waves in the music industry since her debut in 2019 with the '5 Weeks In LA' EP. Her journey has taken her from the Central Coast of Australia to Los Angeles and Nashville, where she honed her craft and developed her unique musical identity.

At just 21 years old, Irie has already achieved a great deal. She signed her first major record and publishing deals at the age of 16 with Republic Records and Downtown Publishing, and went on to sell out shows in LA, New York, and Sydney. She has also shared the stage with renowned artists like Bastille, Sigrid, and Amy Shark, solidifying her presence as a captivating live performer.

Irie's music has been featured on popular TV shows like Love Life (HBO Max), The Bold Type (Freeform), and The Rookie (ABC America), and her song 'Hello World' serves as the title track for the Netflix animated film Back To The Outback.

With millions of streams on Spotify and Apple Music, Evie Irie is undoubtedly an artist to watch. 'Laila' is a beautiful reminder of the power of friendship and a testament to Irie's artistry. As she continues to evolve and mature as a musician, there's no doubt that she will continue to captivate audiences worldwide.
