Moaning Lisa Release New Single '4am (where have you been?)' and Announce Sophomore Album

Naarm/Melbourne-based indie rock quartet Moaning Lisa are back with a bang, unveiling their latest single '4am (where have you been?)'. This release also heralds the much-anticipated arrival of their second album, 'fainter', set to drop on November 22nd via Farmer & The Owl/BMG.

The band has spent the last couple of years meticulously crafting 'fainter', refining their sound and road-testing new material during support slots for renowned acts like Ride, Midnight Oil and Sly Withers. Earlier this year, they offered fans a taste of the album with the singles 'fainter' and 'wayside', garnering widespread acclaim and airplay on triple j, community radio and major streaming platforms.

'4am (where have you been?)' serves as the third single from 'fainter' and takes a wry look at relationship paranoia, delivered in the form of an upbeat indie rock anthem. Drawing inspiration from pettiness, insecurity, and a touch of indie sleaze, the track's snarky vocal melody adds a layer of levity to an otherwise uncomfortable topic.

Lead singer Charlie explains the song's origins: “It’s an embarrassing thing to admit, let alone write a song about. No one wants to feel like their partner is lying to them or sneaking around, no one wants to be the clueless idiot waiting up at home. But as a songwriter, I’m a glutton for punishment and excavating my deepest, darkest feelings so of course this experience was no exception. But I knew that if I was gonna do it, I was gonna have fun with it.

The lyrics open with a scene of a night out that takes a turn for the worse, leading to an altercation with a security guard. Charlie reveals, “that did actually happen, I got into a fight with a security guard who was being transphobic to a friend of mine but I didn’t get kicked out. Probably because it was a sold-out Moaning Lisa show lol.

Musically, '4am (where have you been?)' is a vibrant tapestry of jangling guitars, driving rhythms, and soaring vocal harmonies, showcasing Moaning Lisa's evolution as songwriters and performers. The band's knack for crafting infectious melodies and insightful lyrics shines through, making this a track that will undoubtedly resonate with fans both old and new.

'fainter' promises to be Moaning Lisa's most diverse, intricate and captivating work to date. To celebrate its release, the band will play a hometown album launch show on Friday, November 22nd at Shotkickers. Tickets are on sale now, and fans are encouraged to grab them quickly as this is sure to be a night to remember.
