Fresh off the back of a string of sold-out shows in the US, Aussie rockers Skegss are hitting the road again in support of their brilliant new album, 'Pacific Highway Music'. With a massive five-week North American tour kicking off in February 2025, the band are set to bring their infectious energy to cities across the US and Canada, including a stop at LA's iconic Fonda Theatre on March 9th.
'Pacific Highway Music', the band's third studio album, is arguably their most accomplished work to date. Produced by Paul Butler (known for his work with the likes of Devendra Banhart and Michael Kiwanuka), the album sees the band explore a more mature and introspective sound while retaining the raw energy that has become their trademark.
The album was born out of sessions at the legendary Rancho de la Luna studio in Joshua Tree, where the band experimented with new sounds and textures under the guidance of studio owner Dave Catching. "In the past I’d deprived myself of using things like synthesizers, not realising how much texture and atmosphere they can add to the music,” says frontman Ben Reed. “Working with Paul felt like letting our guard down and completely opening up in terms of what these songs could be.”
This newfound sonic freedom is evident throughout 'Pacific Highway Music', as Skegss navigate the highs and lows of the human experience with honesty and a playful spirit. Reed's lyrics are as sharp and witty as ever, delivered with his signature swagger. Tracks like 'High Beaming' and 'Spaceman' showcase the band's ability to craft catchy hooks and infectious melodies, while "Out Of My Head" delves into more introspective territory.
The album's title is a tribute to the iconic Australian coastal road that has been a constant backdrop in the band's lives. “I’ve spent a lot of my life driving on the Pacific Highway, and most of the time it puts me in a bit of hypnotic state,” says Reed. “With this album I tried to be as honest as possible, but I also wanted to create the kind of songs that give you that same feeling—songs where you can shut your eyes, let your imagination take over, and drift off into another world that exists only in your mind.”
With 'Pacific Highway Music', Skegss have delivered an album that is both exhilarating and thought-provoking, cementing their status as one of Australia's most exciting musical exports. Don't miss your chance to catch them live on their upcoming North American tour.
