An Interview with Mery Diamondz

Los Angeles-based singer and songwriter Mery Diamondz is set to release her third single in a few days, hot on the heels of the July release of her sophomore single. Titled 'Black & Red', the new single is inspired by the lavish surprise party hosted by her uncle in honor of her twenty-fifth birthday. The theme of the party was black and red, which complimented the beautiful chandeliers of the venue. The experience was extremely special to Mery, and the feeling stayed with her.

The upbeat pop sound of the single compliments the classy style that Mery employs, creating an inspired single that will make it's mark on all digital streaming services from August 11th. To help celebrate the release, Mery was kind enough to answer a few of our questions about her style, inspirations, and the new single.

It's so lovely to speak with you today, thank you for taking the time. Let's start right at the beginning, when did you first start making music?

"I’ve been artistically driven since an early age. My mother’s aunt is a well-known artist from Armenia who helped expose me to the music world. After being taught so much, I later ventured out on my own and started my music career."

Do you have any major influences that have inspired your sound?

"Etta James, Whitney Houston, Chaka Chan, and so many more. They all have different artistic styles that speak to me."

Is there a general meaning or message behind your music?

"The messages conveyed in my music come from personal life experiences. I write music that resonates with people who are going through difficulties - such as, dealing with toxic relationships, being hopeless, or children dealing with poverty, etc."

Let's focus on your upcoming single, 'Black & Red', can you tell us a bit more about the track?

"The song is about my 25th  surprise birthday party. As I entered the venue, I was captivated by the beautiful chandeliers and wall decorations (black and red). The beauty of the place resembled a kingdom. I transformed this special experience into a song."

We've been really enjoying your latest project, how would you describe the sound behind it?

"It’s a totally festive, upbeat, party song. It’s a catchy tune that I think will be appealing to others."

What is your songwriting process, and what is the most important thing when you're bringing a song to life?

"First, I brainstorm ideas and jot them down. Then I review the thoughts and refine them. My producer and I find the right melody for the lyrics; then we preview the song and finalise it."

What’s next for you as an artist?

"I’m working on another big project about children. Also, I’m working on launching my clothing line."

A few final questions before you go, what has been your best moment as an artist so far?

"I got to work with my talented crew at the famous east west studios. My producer, Andrew Lane, brought live musicians to do a live rendition for my song. We also had a saxophone player whose performance really touched my heart. This entire experience was very emotional to me."

What do you like most about playing music?

"Being able to create projects with talented team members and give it to the world."

'Black & Red' was co-written with Andrew Lane who also produced the single. Lane is a multi-platinum music producer who is known for his work with such famous artists as Miley Cyrus, Keith Sweat, TLC, Backstreet Boys, Irene Cara and more. The single was produced at Nfinity Drew Right Music Studios in Los Angeles and recorded at the historic East West Studios. East West Studios has been home to such celebrated artists as Frank Sinatra, The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys, Michael Jackson and dozens more.

So far this year Mery Diamondz has released two singles. Her debut song 'It’s a Girl' was released in June and 'Rockstar' was released in July. You can pre-save 'Black & Red' now.
