New Jersey's own Buni Milani is currently making waves with her irresistible pop anthem, ‘I Got It’, a track that's as much a mood as it is a song. A declaration of self-assurance and a sonic escape that refuses to be eclipsed, the new single is a vibrant introduction to Buni’s world.
In our recent interview with the talented singer, we explored the creation of this undeniable anthem, with Buni opening up about the inspiration behind its infectious energy and her journey from childhood dreams to crafting music that rivals the biggest names in pop.
So great to be chatting with you today, Buni, and congratulations on the new single! Can you tell us a bit more about it and what it means to you?
“My latest release is ‘I Got It’ and I’m slightly addicted to it. To me, this song means a lot of things. Firstly, it shows me that I am a true, professional artist that competes with the biggest stars in the world. I would feel confident performing ‘I Got It’ before or after Beyonce because I have my own thing that people will love. It also means that I have a song that people will still want to listen to years down the line. “
You’ve mentioned Beyonce there – were there any specific artists or experiences that helped influence you when writing the release?
“I was in Miami when I wrote the song. The vibes and energy were just immaculate and here we are. It’s not about a specific person.”
What was your songwriting process for the release? How did it all come together?
“I started with a loop of the melody and created the song from there. It just flowed together.”
How would you describe the sound of the single? Has there been a change or evolution in style since you first began?
“I’ve always had an ethereal pop sound, but there’s always evolution, which will be seen on my new album.”
You mentioned earlier that the song means a lot of things. Is there a central message or theme you were trying to convey in the single?
“Basically, the message is, I have everything that a man of interest wants or needs. I’m basically like, I’m your fantasy, but in real life.”
What sort of reception have you had to your latest release? Are there any memorable moments that stand out?
“The reception is great. People want more and more, and I’ll deliver. One of the most memorable moments was when my song was used for the first time on TikTok. I love to see people enjoy my art.”
Taking a look back at your time in music, where did it all begin, and what inspired you?
“I first started making music when I was around 11 years old. I would listen to Brandy and Mariah Carey, and they had their lyric books in the CD cases. I studied them to learn the structure of a song. Soon after I started writing my own songs. My first song was about juice… Kool-Aid. Today, I’m inspired by myself. My thoughts, feelings, and experiences create everything you see.”
Looking ahead, what are your aspirations as an artist? Where do you see yourself in the next few years, both musically and personally?
“I would like people to wait and see where I am in a few years. It’s so easy to say, but I just want to do it now and show it later.”
What's next after the single? Do you have any new releases or shows on the horizon?
“I really want to release an official music video before I move on to my new upcoming album, ‘JUICY’. I may or may not. I’m not totally sure yet.”
Is there anything you would like to say to our audience? How can they connect with you and help support you?
