OPUL isn't just a musician; they're an architect of immersive experiences. Blending electronic music with high-tech visual art and illusionism, their performances transcend the traditional DJ set, crafting journeys into futuristic realms. With their latest release, ‘Digital Odyssey’, released on Trip Records, OPUL continues to push the boundaries of what's possible, fusing pulsating beats with ethereal melodies.
In this new interview, we chat with OPUL about their creative process, exploring the inspirations behind their sound, the evolution of their style since previous releases like ‘Blue Love’ and ‘Neon Wave’, and the unique OLLUSION event that redefines club nights.
Thank you for joining us today, OPUL! Let’s dig right in - when did you first start making music? Where did it all begin, and what inspired you?
“Music and magic have always been part of my DNA. My journey began as a professional illusionist, performing at high-end corporate events and private shows. However, I was always fascinated by electronic music and its ability to create hypnotic, otherworldly atmospheres—just like a great illusion. At some point, I realised I wanted to merge these two worlds. I started producing music with the goal of crafting a sound that feels like an illusion itself—deep, immersive, and unexpected. The idea was to go beyond just playing tracks and instead design an audio-visual storytelling experience that takes people on a journey. That’s how OPUL was born.”
Can you tell us a bit about your latest release and what it means to you?
“’Digital Odyssey’ is more than just a track—it’s a sonic exploration of the connection between humans and technology. It combines hypnotic rhythms, futuristic synth textures, and an evolving structure that makes the listener feel like they’re traveling through a digital dream.”
“For me, this release is a representation of what OPUL stands for: a bridge between music, illusion, and high-tech performance art. When I play it live, it’s not just about the sound—there are synchronised visuals, holographic projections, and interactive moments that make the audience feel like they’re stepping into another reality. This track also marks an evolution in my sound, as I continuously push the boundaries of how music and technology can interact on stage.”
Are there any artists, moments, or experiences that influenced you when writing the release?
“Absolutely. I take inspiration from both electronic music and cinematic storytelling. Artists like Tale of Us, Stephan Bodzin, and Boris Brejcha inspire me with their ability to create deep, emotional soundscapes. At the same time, I draw a lot from sci-fi movies, cyberpunk aesthetics, and futuristic concepts, which shape the way I build my sonic and visual identity.”
“Another huge influence is my background in magic. The way a magician constructs an illusion—building anticipation, creating a moment of astonishment, and then revealing something unexpected—is the same approach I take when producing music. Every track is structured like a performance, leading the listener through twists, builds, and climactic moments that feel like a musical illusion.”
What was your songwriting process for the release? How did it all come together?
“For ‘Digital Odyssey’, I started with the concept first. I knew I wanted to create a track that felt like traveling through a futuristic, digital landscape. From there, I built a foundation of deep, pulsating basslines and hypnotic arpeggios, layering in evolving textures to make the track feel like it was constantly moving forward. The process was highly visual. I often work by imagining the stage visuals and illusions that will accompany the music.”
“For this track, I envisioned holographic cityscapes, neon-lit tunnels, and a journey through a simulated world, which influenced the melodies and sound design. Once I had the core elements, I fine-tuned the dynamics and energy flow, making sure it worked both as a standalone listening experience and as a powerful club track. Finally, I tested it live, refining the elements that had the strongest impact on the audience.”
How would you describe the sound on the new single? Has there been a change or evolution in style since you first began?
“The sound of ‘Digital Odyssey’ is a blend of deep techno, progressive house, and cinematic electronic elements. It’s hypnotic and immersive, with a futuristic edge that reflects my hi-tech, illusion-driven performance style. Compared to my earlier tracks, this release is more refined and concept-driven. Over time, I’ve evolved from simply making club music to designing full-scale experiences, where every track serves as a building block in a larger performance.”
“The biggest shift has been integrating synchronised visuals, stage magic, and interactive elements—pushing the boundaries of what a DJ set can be. With every release, I aim to blur the lines between music, art, and technology even further, creating performances that feel truly otherworldly and unforgettable.”
Is there a central message or theme you were trying to convey in your latest release?
“With ‘Digital Odyssey’, I wanted to explore the relationship between humans and technology, the real and the virtual, the organic and the synthetic. The track represents a journey through a digital dimension, where emotions and artificial intelligence merge into a hypnotic, ever-evolving soundscape. One key moment that captures this idea is the breakdown section—here, everything strips back to an ethereal, almost weightless atmosphere, as if floating in a cybernetic dream. Then, as the build intensifies, the elements gradually reconnect, leading to an explosive drop where the organic and digital worlds collide in perfect sync.”
“This mirrors my artistic vision: blurring boundaries between illusion and reality, music and technology, sound and spectacle. It’s not just a track—it’s an experience designed to transport the listener into an alternate reality, just like my live performances.”
What's next after this release? Do you have any new releases or shows on the horizon?
“My goal is to continue pushing the boundaries between music, technology, and illusion, creating a multi-sensory experience that goes beyond a traditional DJ set. With my project OPUL and the OLLUSION format, I want to take my performances to an even more immersive level, combining holograms, AI, and interactive visuals to transport the audience into a futuristic, dreamlike world. Musically, I’m constantly evolving. I have upcoming releases with new labels, exploring even deeper, hypnotic, and high-energy sounds that reflect my vision. Personally, I see myself growing both as an artist and a performer, taking OPUL to international stages, where the fusion of music, illusion, and technology becomes something truly unforgettable.”

Music and magic have been intertwined for OPUL since the very start. Starting as a professional illusionist, they were captivated by electronic music's ability to create hypnotic atmospheres. This fascination led to the creation of a sound that mirrors an illusion – deep, immersive, and unexpected. ‘Digital Odyssey’ is a testament to this, a sonic exploration of the human-technology connection, featuring hypnotic rhythms and futuristic synth textures.
